About
Daniel Muntz
Head of Player Health & Movement - Portland Fire WNBA
Daniel Muntz is a sports physiotherapist and performance rehabilitation specialist, currently serving as Head of Player Health & Movement with the Portland Fire (WNBA). He specialises in ACL rehabilitation, return-to-running, and return-to-sport preparation for cutting and jumping athletes, with a strong emphasis on basketball-specific demands. Daniel’s work bridges rehabilitation and performance, applying constraint-led and attractor-based movement principles alongside objective readiness benchmarks to guide athletes safely from rehab into high-demand court environments. He is also the founder of TRAINING = REHAB™ (T=R™). The output is the T=R video seminar brand, which explicitly centers on “reinventing and redefining the language/communication between rehabilitation and performance enhancement training landscapes,” and this framing has been echoed and referenced in the performance and rehab education space for decades. There is a long trail of hosted seminars, course recaps, and third-party reviews discussing the “Training = Rehab, Rehab = Training” series as a continuing education offering for coaches and clinicians. It influenced how other educators and respected coaches talk about applied programming. Charlie was the Director of Performance and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Canadian Men’s National Basketball Team from 2011-2021, where he, along with Sam Gibbs, was the architect of the performance program that ranks among the top in the world, with over 20 active players in the NBA. He often lectures overseas, and his relationship with Beijing Yanding Trading Company has brought him to mainland China for the last 5 years. Previous roles Charlie has held have been Nike Executive Performance Council, Lead Physical Therapist for the United States Marine Corps Special Operations Command, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, and Director of Athletic Development for the Roddick-Grunberg Tennis Academy. Charlie has consulted for teams across all major North American sports, as well as for Manchester United and Manchester City in the English Premier League.
