Luka is an enthusiastic strength and conditioning coach, sports rehabilitation specialist, international author, and lecturer with a passion for performance and education. He earned his Master of Kinesiology degree from the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb, where he received multiple awards for exceptional academic achievement. During his master’s studies, Luka also studied as an exchange student at Jan Komenský University’s School of Physical Education and Sports in Slovakia, as well as at the School of Medicine at Lund University in Sweden. His first full-season internship as an S&C coach was with the junior basketball team Zagreb. After graduation, Luka was accepted for a lecturing position at the University of Zagreb, while he continued to further develop and refine his craft as a coach. As far as his practical experience goes, he has worked with athletes in various individual and team sports. However, Luka’s primary focus has always been on basketball. After his internship, he worked with the Croatian national youth and senior teams and won a gold medal with the U18 team at the EuroBasket in 2012. Soon after that, Luka moved abroad to work with Türk Telekom from Ankara, Turkey. In 2016, he relocated to Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain to work with Baskonia, one of the most recognized basketball teams in Europe. At the University of the Basque Country in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Luka took the next step in his academic education in 2018 by successfully defending his doctoral thesis on Load Monitoring and Management in Elite Basketball. The journey with Baskonia ended in 2020 with a major trophy – the Spanish Championship. The following season, Luka moved to Russia to work with UNICS Kazan, reaching the finals in both the VTB League and the EuroCup. In the summer of 2021, Luka decided to take a new step in his career by signing with the German powerhouse, FC Bayern Munich Basketball. In 2023, he became the personal coach of EuroLeague superstar Shane Larkin, while simultaneously pursuing a specialization in sports and rehabilitation medicine. In the summer of 2024, Luka completed his final exam and moved to the United States to work in the NBA, where he achieved historic success by winning the 2025 NBA Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets. Besides coaching, field-related writing is another of Luka’s passions. He has published several papers related to sports training, physical performance, injury prevention, and load monitoring. Luka co-authored the book Functional Movement Preparation for Basketball and also served as editor and co-author of the book There Is More Than One Way to Skin a Cat. The first three editions of Essentials of Physical Performance in Elite Basketball have proven to be world-class material, reaching coaches on six different continents in over 75 countries. Luka’s professional goal is to help players achieve and maintain their peak physical performance, as well as to share his knowledge with other enthusiasts in the field. He is one of the founding members of the ESCCA, the EuroLeague Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, whose main goal is to help the community of coaches in Europe grow. Luka is happily married to Dora, a School of Kinesiology alumna and a passionate sports fan. Their shared mission is to nurture a loving and supportive relationship with each other and their children, son Patrik and daughter Alma. Traveling is a significant part of their lives, as is following various sports. Whenever possible, Dora and Luka seek out places with great food and wine, and of course, excellent coffee and desserts.
